Resident Evil 2 REmake Review

1 Min Read

Resident Evil 2 is one of the most beloved and highly rated games on the original Playstation. Anticipation for this remake has been high since it’s announcement and I am delighted to report that this sets a new standard for video game remakes. Graphics and performance are both on point, with every corner of the game given supreme care and attention to detail. Gameplay manages to stay true to the original but implement many ‘quality of life’ additions like being able to move while shooting and the over the shoulder perspective is a huge upgrade on the classic static camera.

Let’s play review.

For those unfamiliar with the original, the game follows two protagonists. Leon, a cop in his first day on the job and Claire, a civilian in search of her brother Chris. You can choose which character you wish to play as and once you finish you get the option to play from the alternative character perspective. In total there are four playthrough’s required to see everything and while they may not differentiate as much as I would have liked the superb atmosphere, tension and sheer polish throughout makes it a joy.

Resident Evil 2 REmake has the perfect blend of adventure, puzzle solving, cat and mouse chases and gun play. The police station has always been my favourite location in the series and exploring the new incredibly well crafted Raccoon City PD building was laced with nostalgia. If you enjoyed the original or even have a fleeting interest in survival horror games I urge you to pick up this game and experience the genre at it’s very finest. Resident Evil 7 back in 2016 reminded us how good the series can be and this now fully restores the RE brand to what it once was.

Craig started gaming at 4 years old on the NES and has been hooked ever since. Trophies and achievements have only made him fall deeper down the rabbit hole. Will play almost anything, although particularly partial to anything involving stealth and silenced pistols. Football game enthusiast. RIP PES.
