If you are a long time gamer then chances are you have heard of Leisure Suit Larry. With games spanning across four decades, the series has had it’s ups and downs (most recently downs) in terms of quality. Well I am glad to report that Larry is back! Not only does this redeem the everyone’s favourite sex pest from the awful Box Office Bust game in 2009, but it may well be the best game in the entire series. No poorly designed 3D world to explore here. Instead it’s back to a 2D point and click adventure with superb detail in both the characters and environments.
Speaking of characters, the cast of ‘Wet Dreams Don’t Dry’ all play their part in creating a fun and interesting world to explore. The story is full of hilarious nods to pop culture and sexual innuendos aplenty. Puzzles were surprisingly coherent and this lead to a great sense of satisfaction when progressing through the game. Too often in point and click games the puzzles lose all sense of logic, but developers CrazyBunch clearly went over and above in this aspect of development. Voice acting is brilliant, even from secondary and peripheral characters, while getting around the various locations in the game is completely pain free thanks to almost no load times and the ability to double tap X to cut to the next scene instead of waiting for Larry to walk over himself.
Trophy wise nothing is difficult at all, but some are a little obscure so I would recommend either making regular manual saves (the game kindly gives you 12 slots for this very reason) or using a guide because progressing the story beyond certain points can lock you out of a trophy. The game also has a separate EU & US trophy stack, so you can come back for more and pick up a second platinum. This brings me to my one criticism though; the price. £35. In 2019 I believe that is far too much to ask for an experience that many only last some around five hours and lacks replay value. Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is my favourite game in a storied series. The graphics, the audio, the puzzles, the performance… everything is spot on. It makes me sad that only a limited amount will be willing to take the initial plunge because of the barrier to entry. I can only hope it doesn’t impact future games in the series.
