This is a bit of a new feature that will appear on the website every couple of days running down some of the smaller bits of new in the gaming industry that I think deserve your attention. Larger news stories – like the one posted earlier about Sony announcing a Last of Us Part II State of Play for Wednesday will still be covered separately. New Sherlock Holmes Game Coming 2021
Frogwares, who most recently delivered a new IP in The Sinking City are returning to their Sherlock Holmes roots in 2021 with Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One. This will be a cross-gen title appearing on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as well as other platforms.
Gamespot had the exclusive on this story and the dev team confirmed to the website that it is a sequel to both Crimes and Punishment and The Devil’s Daughter which came out in 2014 and 2016 to solid reviews.
Most interestingly of all, Frogwares said that the game will take place in an open world… and it won’t be London. Set in his Mediterranean island hometown, a 21-year-old Sherlock Holmes will link up with the bold Jonathan, having not met Watson yet at this time. He has just returned to the island following the death of his mother.
Our Take: Crimes and Punishment and The Devil’s Daughter were both a lot of fun. I am definitely on board for another entry in the series and it being in a more open setting is pretty exciting. I also like how they have chosen to go with a younger Sherlock, hopefully providing some backstory on how his eccentricities developed.
Call of Duty: World War II on PS+
Pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. Sony announced in the tweet below that Call of Duty: World War II which launched back in November 2017 will be one of the free PS+ games for June 2020. The rest of the lineup will be revealed later this week.
Our Take: While admittedly dated, Call of Duty is still a juggernaut and having any of their games on the PS+ lineup is a good get for Sony. I would temper expectations for the rest of this lineup as we are unlikely to see two AAA games in the same month. Rumours had surfaced that Spider-Man was going to be free and to be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony announced COD early to quietly squash those reports.
Maneater & Saints Row The Third Perform!
There were two newly released games featured in this weeks UK Top 10 sales charts. Tripwire Interactive’s new ShaRkPG Maneater and Volition’s remaster of Saints Row: The Third both cracked the Top 10 despite only one day of sales (week ends May 23rd). Below is the full list.
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- Grand Theft Auto V
- FIFA 20
- Maneater
- Saints Row The Third Remastered
- Minecraft
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
- Luigi’s Mansion 3
Our Take: Saints Row: The Third Remastered (our review) was a stick on to do well in my opinion. It’s a solid remaster of a great game and one that is loved by fans of the series. Maneater on the other hand has done really well to earn it’s spot. We are currently reviewing the game and while it is really fun, it is easily a game you could have seen slipping under the radar.
That’ll do it for this entry. Make sure to check out our recent reviews from the menu or via the main page. For constant news and opinions, follow us on Twitter.
