PlayStation 5 Event Re-Set For June 11th

1 Min Read

I did think about copying and pasting the original article from last week and just changing the date, but damnit – I’m a professional! After delaying the event from June 4th due to protests in America and subsequently across the globe Sony has now decided to proceed a week later than planned.

Sony also revealed more about what we will see this Thursday, stating that the games shown will be in 1080p and 30fps to ease the shows production process. The games will of course run at 4K and presumably 60fps when the console launches. The show is already in the can and was pre-taped before the original cancellation.

Lastly the statement advises wearing a headset while watching the presentation as they plan to do some cool audio work. This is a follow up to the news that PS5 will change the way we hear games going forward. As with last week, the show will air at 9pm UK time.

Our Take: This news was completely expected. If you have been following my updates on Twitter I had said that Sony wouldn’t wait long before pulling the trigger as they have multiple events, not to mention games coming hot and fast behind it. The confirmation that the show is pre-taped was also something I expected, as doing anything live is asking for trouble.

The quality of the presentation being 1080p/30fps is a bit disappointing but understandable given the amount of people that are going to try and tune in. You can bet separate 4K/60fps trailers will be released following the event. Lastly the advice to wear a headset is exciting. I’m looking forward to seeing what audio design choices have been made for PS5.
