Before getting into the latest gaming news in this edition of News Bytes I’d like to point you towards some of our most recent content. In the last week we have had reviews of Creaks, Destroy All Humans and the Xbox Games Showcase. Enjoy!
Rumours of Major Third Party Exclusivity On PS5
Rumours are starting to intensify once again about Sony having some pretty major third-party exclusives in the works. These rumours first appeared around a month ago and did always point towards an August reveal. There has been plenty of talk that Sony is going to do another State of Play soon, with August 6th being talked about as a potential date.
Our Take: It makes sense for Sony to do this, but there is still a chance that this story has just grown legs from fanboys trying to deflect attention in the lead up to the Xbox Games Showcase. I have seen Final Fantasy XVI rumoured as a potential timed or outright exclusive which would make sense given close relationship that saw FFVII come to PlayStation first.
Rocket Arena Added To EA Access
Two weeks after releasing for £25, Rocket Arena is not only 83% off and on sale for £4.24, but it can be downloaded for FREE as part of your EA Access subscription. EA Access is available on PS4 for £4 per month and offers access to EA’s library of games.
Our Take: This doesn’t sit well with me at all. It was so obvious before the game launched that it should have been free to play. If you want to try a paid model first that’s fine, but it’s completely unfair to have people pay full price, only to change your mind and sell it for peanuts 14 days later.
Hyper Scape Is In-Fact Coming Soon To PS4
Hyper Scape, the new futuristic battle royale game from Ubisoft was announced recently and has been in public beta on PC for a few weeks. Now Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will come to PlayStation 4 on August 11th. Along with this free-to-play launch will be a battle pass, should you wish to invest in this ecosystem. One final bit of news hot off the press is that the game won’t have a platinum trophy.
Our Take: We knew it wouldn’t be long and so it’s nice to get a firm date for release. I have played a little bit of the beta and I really enjoyed the game. Whether it can survive in a really saturated market remains to be seen though. The lack of a platinum trophy seems like a huge oversight and one that was easily avoidable.
People Can Fly Announce Another PS5 Game
Developer People Can Fly who are currently working on PS5 title Outriders have announced that they have a second next-gen title in the works. The team are working on “a highly ambitious, groundbreaking action-adventure title”. Could this be another Bulletstorm game or is it a new IP? Not much is known at this time.
Our Take: It’s hard to get too excited when we have very little details, but the calibre of the team working on it does give me hope that it could be a big release. We will continue to monitor the situation for any further info and bring it to you when it becomes available.
Peaky Blinders: Mastermind Coming In August
As the header suggests, Peaky Blinders: Mastermind – the new game from FuturLab has been given an August release date. August 20th to be exact. The game takes place just before the events of the first season of the highly popular TV show and will cost £19.99/$24.99.
Our Take: Peaky Blinders is always a show I have had on a list to watch but as of this writing I haven’t gotten around to. The gameplay looks interesting and with it being a prequel to the first season I may check this out and then start the show once I’m done.
