Sony have announced a PS5 Showcase for Wednesday, September 16th 2020. The show will begin at 9pm UK time. On the PlayStation blog Sony had the following to say;
“Before PlayStation 5 launches this holiday, we wanted to give you one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!). Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.”
The event was also confirmed by the PlayStation UK Twitter account along with a 40 second video clip.
Our Take: This was inevitable. We’re at the point now where Sony can’t afford to wait any longer. I would imagine this would have been the date regardless of whether the Microsoft leaks had happened this week or not, but with the events of this week they really couldn’t wait any longer. I will reiterate that I expect the price to be £499 for the disk version and £449 for the digital edition. That way at least one of the consoles is in line with the Xbox Series X.
Sony could always go mega aggressive and release at £449/£399 and have their digital console undercutting the competition but given the cost of the custom SSD Sony are using I wouldn’t expect it. Either way we are super excited to hear more and hopefully get pre-ordering the PlayStation 5!
