Rumoured Metal Gear Solid Remake In The Works

According to YouTube channel RedGamingTech, a Metal Gear Solid remake is in the works over at Konami and it will be a PS5 exclusive title. The rumour also states that ports of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and 4 are also coming. This isn’t the first time this rumour has surfaced online, although reports had died down in recent months.

Our Take: At this point, I do believe that it’s real. I very much believe in no smoke without fire and I have heard so many reports that I would be very surprised if it didn’t happen. I also tend to believe the deal between Sony and Konami also includes Silent Hill, which has been rumoured in the past as well.

In terms of when this is likely to be announced, I would bet on the Game Awards in December. Revealing it earlier than that would be premature as let’s be honest, if real this is likely a 2022 release. Plus excited fans wouldn’t even be able to go out and pre-order a PS5 at this point due to lack of stock. Announcing it in December or early next year would also people to then go and make an impulse PlayStation 5 purchase with the promise of the game coming down the line.

Naughty Dog Rebrands Outbreak Day

In a tweet that can be viewed below, Sony’s first-party studio Naughty Dog has rebranded the upcoming September 26th ‘Outbreak Day’ to the more 2020 palatable ‘The Last of Us Day’. The name originally referred to the date of the fictional outbreak in Last of Us lore, but the team has perhaps wisely given it a rethink given the current climate.

Our Take: Don’t get me wrong, I completely understand why the change has been made. I just think it’s a shame that we live in a society where if this hadn’t happened there would have been a subset of people ready to jump all over the gaming giant. I hope we can get to a point again where people don’t spend half their lives online looking for something to be outraged about, but that feels like a lifetime away at this point.
