WCW Nitro Series Coming Soon

2 Min Read

Ever since I first watched the Royal Rumble back in 1992 at a friends house I have been a wrestling fan. No matter how bad WWE got over the years I still watched every week. Honestly, I just figured I was a lifer, however, last year just after WrestleMania I finally decided I was walking away. It wasn’t that the product had become too bad to watch – in truth these days the bad parts just create opportunities for comedic tweets and articles. Instead, it was how boring it was.

Watching Edge and Randy Orton have a match that I am pretty sure is still going on as I type this nine months later nearly put me in a coma. Eighteen years of watching Randy Orton is a punishment, and I had served my time. Over the last nine months, I have quenched my wrestling thirst with AEW, which was been a great watch. At this point, the only way I will give WWE another chance is if Vince McMahon is out of the picture completely. Even if Vince does sell the company (likely to NBC) as I suspect he will, the likelihood is that he would remain in charge until he retires or more likely is forced out due to health reasons and when that will be is anyone’s guess.

So in the meantime, as I enjoy writing about wrestling, my plan to do short write-ups for WCW Nitro, starting from episode one on September 4th, 1995. I haven’t seen some of these episodes since they first aired so it will be interesting going back to visit them 20-25 years later. I go into this without rose-tinted glasses. I remember very well how bad some of it is, but I think I will enjoy poking fun at some of Bischoff’s more idiotic decisions and analysing how key moments could have been handled differently with the benefit of hindsight.

Whether you were a WCW fan during the Nitro era or have only heard people romanticize about it, I think you will enjoy the ride. Feel free to boot up the WWE Network and watch along with me! I have no set release schedule due to my many other commitments, but I plan to get through them at a reasonable clip.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I will be back soon with the very first Monday Nitro.
