Sony’s State of Play in February showed off 10 PS5 and PS4 games

Sony’s first 2021 State of Play livestream took place on Thursday 25th February and we saw 10 PS5 and PS4 games showcased. Here’s a full recap of the event.

The livestream kicked off with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time

We’ll now see native 4K at 60 frames per second, subtle haptic feedback and immersive 3D audio. PlayStation activity cards can also direct you toward optional gameplay objective and boss fights. What’s more, your save file from PS4 will transfer over, and PS4 owners can upgrade to a PS5 copy.

Third-person action Returnal was next up. Playing as astronaut, Selene, you exploring a dangerous alien world. Each time you die in the game, the world will reset around you, providing new opportunities and challenges. You’ll fight difficult enemies with a variety of weapons, and upgrade your skills over time. The game will be released on April 30.

Knockout City, a team-based dodgeball game was next up. In this extreme sports game, you vie for control of a ball and take out the other teams using a number of skills and combos.

The release date is set for May 21, but you can sign up to participate in a beta on the games’ official website in the  meantime.

Sifu was next to be shown off and can be described as a stylish combat game, not much like anything else we’ve seen. No exact date was given for it’s release but it is set to debut in 2021.

Solar Ash, the colourful action game that relies on simple, fluid combat and platforming as you guide its protagonist on a quest to save her strikingly animated planet was next to be shown. It will come out later this year on PS4 and PS5.

If you’re a horror fan, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach might be your next adventure. It’s a playful, atmospheric game about evading animatronic robots in a children’s entertainment center.

Finally with a release date of April 6 for PS4 and PS5, Oddworld: Soulstorm was shown. Described as a “2.9-D” platformer, the game will give you the choice between combat and pacifism and you’ll be able to control your enemies and make them do your bidding – or pit them against each other, each choice affecting the course of the narrative.

Kena: Bridge of Spirits was finally dated and we’ll see it come out on August 24, for PS4 and PS5. You play a young girl, Kena, who is on a mission to draw upon the power of friendly spirits to combat all manner of dangerous monsters in a third-person platformer.

Deathloop, the incredibly stylish first-person shooter/stealth game, in which two cunning adversaries fight each other in a time loop. The game will be out on May 21.

Perhaps the biggest news, to come from this State of Play was that Final Fantasy VII Remake will get a dedicated PS5 patch to improve graphics and loading times, as well as add a photo mode. There’s also new DLC which will focus on new party member Yuffie Kisaragi, and show us a story we never got to see in the original FFVII.
